Sevilla FC welcomes RC Lens at 9pm for the first day of the Champions League. Here are the starting eleven.
Sevilla, winners of the Europa League last season, could be without some key players, notably left-back starter Acuna (injured), experienced midfielder Fernando, Januzaj not part of plans, injured knee Kouassi, defensive summer 2022 recruit Marcao ( still injured), as well as the young substitute goalkeeper Vacas (unavailable). On the other hand, former Rennes player Loic Badé and Spanish legend Sergio Ramos, back home after a long journey, should be available, as should Moroccan striker En-Nesyri and Lucas Ocampos. However, be aware of this summer’s departures, especially of titular goalkeeper Bono (to Saudi Arabia) and the perennially injured Jesus Corona (return to Mexico). During the match against Palmas in La Liga, it was rookie Lukebakio (Hertha Berlin) who made the decision.
On the Lens side, it is obvious that two key players in the Champions League qualification will be missing: Openda (RB Leipzig) and Fofana (Al Nassr), who chose to leave the northern project. It is also possible that some players will be missing for the trip to Sevilla, notably winger Cabot, David Costa and goalkeeper Farinez, all injured. On the other hand, Diouf and Haïdara are uncertain. Coach Franck Haise will be able to rely on his captain, Brice Samba, as well as French recruit and international hopeful Wahi (ex-Montpellier), and on the return to competition of Frankowski and rookie Ruben Aguilar. Machado, author of 2 goals in Ligue 1, should probably be in the game, as should Thomasson (5 goals and 5 assists last season), defender Medina, and forward Sotoca, who has revealed himself in the last two years with 7 goals and 9 assists in the elite last season. No specific advantages appear on paper between the two teams.
Seville: Dmitrovic – Juanlu, Gudelj, Sergio Ramos, Pedrosa – Fernando, Sow – Lamela, Rakitic, Ocampos – En Nesyri.
Lens: Samba (c) – Gradit, Danso, Medina – Frankowski, Abdul Samed, Mendy, Machado – Sotoca, Fulgini – Wahi.
