A Spanish national court has dealt another blow to FC Barcelona in the tax settlement case on amounts paid to the club’s player agents between 2012 and 2015, despite the Catalan club appealing the decision.

The economic court ordered Barcelona to pay an amount estimated at around 23 million euros in tax settlements, on individuals and on amounts paid to the players’ agents.

The Administrative Dispute Chamber of the National Court, the main criminal body in Spain, confirmed the decision of the Central Economic and Administrative Tribunal handed down in June 2020, against which the Catalan club appealed, according to what the body indicated in his letter.

The court found that these agents “providing their services to footballers and not to the club, (these amounts) are in the nature of professional income and are subject to deduction at the time of payment”.
