VIDEO – Swimming a kilometer in freezing water: in Haute-Savoie, a hot competition that requires calm

At Lac Bleu de Morillon, in Haute-Savoie, 170 swimmers competed in a cold water swimming competition.
The key word to get you to want to participate: it’s good for your health.

More and more people allow themselves to be tempted by adventure in the four corners of the Pays de Savoie: swimming in the middle of winter in the turquoise waters of Lac Bleu de Morillon, in the heart of the Giffre valley, in Haute-Savoie … in water at 7 °C. Not for simple leisure, but for a taste for competition: a French Open Ice Water Swimming Championship is taking place, and unfortunately for the smartest, wetsuits are prohibited.

As you can see in the video above, athletes warm up before entering the water for maximum concentration. From 50 meters to 1000 meters of racing, this weekend 170 amateur and professional swimmers from all over France came to push their limits. This practice came from Scandinavian countries, which is now flourishing.

Good news for your health: swimming in cold water creates a certain well-being and stimulates the immune system. And then there is the feast for the eyes: Lac Bleu de Morillon is located at an altitude of 700 meters in the Giffre valley in Haute-Savoie, and offers a wonderful scenery.
