One UI 6.1 update breaks the fingerprint scanner, here’s a workaround

Samsung has finally started rolling out the much-awaited One UI 6.1 update, which adds AI features to the Galaxy S24. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned for users, who are now victims of a bug that completely disables the fingerprint scanner. The good news is that there is a solution while we wait for an official fix.

Rarely has a One UI update been so anticipated. It must be said that One UI 6.1 brings with it the main selling point: the AI features of the Galaxy S24, finally available on the Galaxy S23. Not surprisingly, many users rushed to download the update as soon as it was released by Samsung. But, as is often the case with updates of this size, it came with some technical issues.

Firstly, users are very unhappy that with the update, gesture navigation disappeared for no apparent reason. Although this is disabled for those who are used to it, it is still possible to interact with a smartphone despite the lack of this functionality. On the other hand, things get much more complicated when the fingerprint scanner simply refuses to work.

How to fix a bug that causes the fingerprint scanner to break on the Galaxy S23

Many of them are actually facing the issue with the fingerprint scanner, which started glitching after the One UI 6.1 update. “There is no error, the fingerprint animation appears again as soon as I touch the screen and I have to touch it again to unlock the phone; I have the impression that my contact is resetting the fingerprint sensor or the sensor is ignoring the presence of my finger”– Reddit user explains.

The problem appears to be affecting all models in the line, including the Galaxy S23 FE. Some people have to wait a few seconds for the sensor to decide to scan the fingerprint. Others have to press several times before getting a reaction. Since this is an obvious bug and given the growing number of reviews, Samsung shouldn’t delay releasing a fix. In the meantime, users have found a temporary solution.

If you have problems with the fingerprint scanner, go to Settings > Security & Privacy > Biometrics. and disable the option Show unlock transition effect.
