How to improve a photo in minutes and for free using Adobe Photoshop Express?

You might think that Adobe products are aimed at professionals, with their many customization options and subscription system with Creative Cloud. Think again! For image processing, there are not only rich and complex products such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. Adobe has provided a range of practical, simple and free tools that anyone can get their hands on.

Most notably, there is Photoshop Express, a free photo editing software that can be downloaded onto smartphones and tablets. AndroidAndroid AND iOSiOSbut also on a Windows PC via MicrosoftMicrosoft ShopShop. Not to be confused with Adobe Express, formerly Adobe Spark, which is also free software but is more similar to Canva’s visual creation service.

But let’s get back to Photoshop Express. Adobe has developed an easy-to-use, free, and automated tool that makes it easy to improve your photos. You will, however, have access to sliders to adjust contrast, exposure, highlights, saturation, white balance, and correct imperfections in portraits, but that’s not the main reason we download and use the Photoshop Express installation.

Photoshop Express is ideal for applying filters and automatic adjustments. improve your photos in just a few minutes, even if you don’t know anything about photo editing. But to avoid fiddling around when opening the software for the first time and to save time, here’s a quick guide on where to find the tools you need.

As you can see, the interface is quite minimalistic, with a few icons and filters on the left.

But what we’re especially interested in is the little icon at the top of the screen that looks exactly like Photoshop’s Magic Wand tool. This is an automatic improvement tool. Click it and your image will automatically become lighter if it’s too dark or backlit, more contrast if it appears too dull, and so on.

The only downside is that you don’t really know what settings have been changed… If you’re not happy with the result, you can click on the arrow to go back.

You’ll then need to navigate through the various settings on the left to find the “look” that suits you. In the first position and by default, the user sees famous images from different categories: “basic”, “glow”, “b&w”, “portrait”, “nature”, “explosion of color”. colorscolors” and “your double”. Simply expand each category to view a thumbnail of your image with the various filters offered.

Please note that if you click on an appearance it will be applied automatically, it is not a preview. A slider is then displayed at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to adjust the intensity of the filter. If it doesn’t fit, click the arrow to go back.

The same principle of an effect that’s applied automatically and that you can customize can be found in the other settings in the Adjustments menu on the left. This is a submenu LightLight that you will find the “classic” parameters of photo editing software: exposure, contrast, highlights, shadow, white, blacks… The Color submenu has settings for temperature, hue, brightness and saturation. The Details submenu is also interesting as it combines tools for sharpening and noise reduction brightnessbrightness and chromatic.
