In the family Enterobacterales we find several “superbugs”: bacteria Escherichia coli (E.coli) AND Klebsiella pneumoniain particular, they are able to resist third-generation cephalosporins (antibiotics used, in particular, to combat meningitis, pneumonia and sepsis) and carbapenems (potent broad-spectrum antibiotics).

The challenge now is to avoid the spread of these “superbugs” which are therefore extremely difficult to eradicate. Yes, but here it is: according to an Anglo-Portuguese study to be presented at the end of the month at the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) congress, our pets may be helping to spread these diseases. dangerous microorganisms in our environment… To reach this alarming conclusion, the researchers studied samples of skin, urine and feces from 5 cats, 38 dogs and 78 people distributed in 43 homes in Portugal, as well as 22 dogs and 56 people living in our environment.
