Tudor sets the record straight on his relationship with Guendouzi

While rumors indicate a complicated relationship between the two men, Igor Tudor assured that everything was going well with Matteo Guendouzi, already under his orders at OM. The Frenchman was not in the squad for Friday’s match against Genoa.

Lazio Roma coach Igor Tudor assured this Friday that his relationship with Matteo Guendouzi was “good” despite rumors of a falling out between the two men. “Matteo will train with the group tomorrow, he will be operative for (the semi-final second leg of) the Italian Cup” on Tuesday, Tudor said on the DAZN platform after the team’s victory in Genoa against Genoa (1-0) in the advanced match on 33rd day of the Italian Championship.

Guendouzi was not called up for this match. He had already missed the previous match last weekend against Salernitana (4-1), officially due to a calf injury. “He has a calf problem, it’s nothing else, my relationship with Matteo is good,” insisted Tudor.

An argument last week?

According to the Italian press, last week the French national team player had an argument with Tudor, with whom he already worked in 2022-2023 in OM and with whom the relationship had been stormy after being relegated to the bench. Lazio’s sporting director Angelo Fabiani admitted on Thursday that there were “disagreements between the two men that were resolved”.

Arriving in Rome last summer on a loan with an option to buy, Guendouzi quickly became a key player for Maurizio Sarri, who resigned last month and was replaced by Tudor. The former Marseillais played 28 league games and scored two goals. Thanks to the win against Genoa, Lazio moved from 7th to 6th place, one point ahead of Atalanta who played two games less.
