Urinary infections: what is this oral vaccine that can prevent cystitis instead of antibiotics?

See my news

An incessant urge to go to the toilet, a burning sensation, pain in the lower abdomen… There is nothing pleasant about a urinary infection. Especially if you do this repeatedly.

A viable solution appears to be on the horizon. A new oral vaccineMV140 may become an alternative to antibiotics against urinary tract infections recurrent.

This vaccine, developed by the Spanish pharmaceutical company Immunotek, was presented at the congress of the European Association of Urology in Paris.

How it works ?

Principle: two sprays pineapple-flavored suspension under the tongue every day During three months.

“It’s a vaccine very easy to manage and can be administered by general practitioners as a three-month course,” explains Dr. Bob Young, a urologist who led the study.

As the doctor explains, “before receiving the vaccine, all our participants were sickrecurrent urinary tract infectionsand for many women they can be difficult to treat.”

Note: cystitis Recurrent infections in France are defined as four or more urinary tract infections in 12 months.

Nine years of peace

This is the starting point. But does it really work? To find out, researchers at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in the UK gave the vaccine to 89 people suffering from recurrent urinary tract infections and followed them for several years.

But after the administration the result is convincing : 54% of participants were free of urinary tract infections for nine years, withoutno side effects remarkable things have been reported.

While we must be pragmatic, this vaccine represents a potential breakthrough in the prevention of urinary tract infections and may offer a safe and effective alternative to traditional treatments. Many of our members have told us that the vaccine has restored their quality of life.

And for those who developed cystitis again, “simply drinking plenty of water was enough to cure it,” the authors explain.
