Morocco. Households are pessimistic about their ability to save

The results of the household economic survey conducted by the High Commission for Planning (HCP) for the first quarter of 2024 show that 9.3%, compared to 90.7% of households, expect to save in the next twelve months.

According to this study, the assessment of this indicator is -81.4 points, a deterioration both compared to the previous quarter and compared to the same quarter of the previous year, when the score was -80, 7 points and -76.1 points. the HCP respectively indicates in its recent information note on the results of the household economic survey.

According to the same source, in the first quarter of 2024, 96.9% of households declare that the prices of food products have increased over the past twelve months. The judgment balance remained negative at -96.5 points. Furthermore, the HCP reports that 76.3% of households expect the price of food products to continue to rise over the next twelve months, while 6.2% of them expect a decrease in prices. The judgment balance therefore remained negative and amounted to -70.1 points, compared to -77.6 points a quarter earlier and -69.8 points a year earlier.
