Pollen allergy, also known as hay fever or seasonal allergic rhinitis, is a reaction of the immune system to pollen particles from certain plants. Here are some causes and symptoms associated with this allergy:

Pollen allergy, what are the causes?

  1. Pollen : Pollen allergens are the main cause of this allergic reaction. Trees, grasses and weeds release pollen into the air during certain seasons.
  2. Immune sensitivity : People with allergies have an oversensitive immune system that overreacts to pollen particles.
  3. Genetic factors : A family history of allergies may increase your risk of developing a pollen allergy.
  4. Repeated contact : Repeated exposure to pollen may increase sensitivity over time and cause more severe allergic reactions.

Symptoms

  1. Sneezing : Repeated sneezing is one of the most common symptoms of pollen allergies.
  2. Runny nose : Clear or watery nasal discharge is common, sometimes accompanied by nasal congestion.
  3. Itching : Itching of the nose, throat, eyes and roof of the mouth may occur.
  4. Red and watery eyes : Eyes may become red, swollen and irritated, and cause excessive tearing.
  5. Cough and throat irritation : Some people may experience a dry cough or throat irritation.
  6. Fatigue : Allergic symptoms may be accompanied by feelings of fatigue and malaise.
  7. Labored breathing : In severe cases, airway obstruction may cause difficulty breathing.

These symptoms may vary in intensity depending on individual sensitivity and level of pollen exposure. People with pollen allergies are advised to consult with an allergist to obtain an accurate diagnosis and develop an appropriate treatment plan, which may include antihistamines, nasal corticosteroids, allergen desensitization, or other treatments if necessary.
