Chrome users will soon be able to see a Gemini shortcut in the address bar to communicate directly with the AI. A faster way to gather information without scouring the Internet.

In the race to dominate the generative AI market, Google is following in Microsoft’s footsteps and intends to integrate Gemini AI across all of its services – even if its approach is currently less aggressive than the Redmond firm’s. Let’s remember that its chatbot, based on Gemini Pro – one of the company’s most powerful large language models (LLMs), is designed to help users in their daily lives: write texts, plan meetings, events, create images, etc. summarize documents, write emails, or simply save time while browsing. IT HAS Gemini should even eventually replace Google Assistant. In addition, the Mountain View firm is gradually integrating it into its ecosystem, such as Google Messages, where some beta testers can now communicate directly with the AI ​​(see our article), as well as Google Maps and Gmail. The Mountain View-based firm is even considering offering premium generative AI-powered features in Google search, integrated into a paid Gemini Advanced subscription (see our article).

This time, the internet giant is looking to integrate its artificial intelligence into its Chrome browser directly into the address bar – the famous omnibox – through an extension. Just write “@gemini” before entering it to get direct access to the chatbot’s services without having to go to its official website. Please note that this feature is still in testing at the moment and is therefore only available in the Chrome Canary version.

Gemini in Chrome: How to access AI in the address bar?

To be able to use Gemini directly in Chrome, you’ll need to go through the Chrome Canary, a Google channel that allows developers and enthusiasts to test new features of the browser and provide feedback on how to improve them. However, there are certain indicators that need to be defined, some of which are already present in the stable version of Chrome.

► Download the latest version of Chrome and launch the browser. Then entere chrome://flags in the address bar and press Entrance for confirmation.

► You are taken to a new page called Experiments. which introduces all the experimental features of Chrome.

► In the search field at the top, enter Starter pack and confirm.

►The page then displays the search results, offering two options.

► Click on the drop-down menu to the right of the option. Extension package for site search starter package. and select Preview URL included.

► All you need to do is relaunch Google Chrome Canary to access @gemini in the omnibox.

Activation via flags indicates that Google wants to make Gemini available to a wider audience via the address bar soon. However, we don’t yet know when this will happen. Google itself has not yet commented on this new feature. We’ll have to wait a little!
