“For these children, tightening the screws is useless”: a day of meetings around ADHD on Sunday, in Joigny

The Hypersupers ADHD France association is organizing an information day for families this Sunday, April 28 at the College Saint-Jacques in Joigny. This “attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity” is still little known.

College Saint-Jacques de Joigny will be open on Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families with children suffering from ADHD – potential or diagnosed – will be able to meet experts there. “It’s not discussed in medical and psychological schools, or it’s very recent,” points out Chantal Lépron, a volunteer at the Hypersupers ADHD association in France.

Hyperactive or hypoactive?

“We will be there to inform parents, but we will also respond to adults who feel worried that children can come, there will also be a playroom for them, a drawing competition,” specifies the woman who is also the mother of a hypoactive person. child. Hyper and hypo, two sides of a neurodevelopmental disorder. In the first case, “we will say that the child is upset, even misbehaving”. In the second, that he is “on the moon”.

We will try to give lectures to the parents and the child. But for these children, tightening the screws is of no use.

Because this is not a question of ill will, but of a disorder characterized by the overflow of ideas: cerebral agitation is associated with motor agitation in the hyperactive, while the hypoactive will lose himself in his thoughts.

Possible arrangements

This ADHD brings its share of complications. “These children may have social difficulties or fail in school. You should know that adjustments are possible in agreement with the institution, and can be made official by the Departmental Center for People with Disabilities,” explains Chantal Lépron.

An on-call medical center will open in the Auxerre hospital’s emergency department

The information day will allow parents to better understand this disorder. “Our association was also founded by a group of parents. Our goal is to develop information, mutual help, but also to warn public authorities in order to take better care of ADHD”, explains the volunteer, who already has the first key to publish. “Motivation is important, the smaller they are, the harder it is to find, but that’s the goal of Barkley’s method, which we’ll talk about on Sunday.
