More than 50% of French people suffer from MSD

Santé Publique France conducted a telephone survey asking 18,298 people aged 18 to 64 years, including 13,093 workers, about musculoskeletal pain experienced in the past year.

Two main categories of MSD prevalence have been established: those related to the back and those related to the upper extremities.. Five specific subcategories were also analyzed: low back pain, sciatica pain, shoulder pain, elbow pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome. The Prevention Index has been developed to target sectors that require special attention from a prevention perspective.

Research shows that MSDs affect 58% of women and 51% of men in the population aged 18 to 64 years.. As for back problems, 47% of women and 40% of men suffer from them. As for the upper extremities, it affects 30% of women and 27% of men.

These statistics are similar among active workers, with 60% of women and 54% of men affected. The hardest hit sectors were the manufacturing and construction sectors among men, and the health and social work sectors among women.

Among back diseases, pain in the lower back is dominant, and in the upper extremities – pain in the shoulders.. These data highlight the prevalence of MSD in France, where a large proportion of the population is affected, consistent with the results of previous studies.

As for chiropractic, this discipline covers all occupational pathologies and their consequences. The chiropractor intervenes on two levels: treatment and prevention. He works to restore joint mobility and reduce pain, and provides advice on optimizing treatment outcomes provided through a global healthcare approach.
