Zendaya in a love trilogy in ‘Challengers’ in theaters Wednesday: Our review

Luca Guadagnino, Director Call me by your name He signs his ninth feature film and brings together in front of his camera three actors whose complicity works wonders: Zendaya, who has just won in… Sand dunes Mike Faist (seen in West Side Story Spielberg) and Josh O’Connor (Charles England from seasons 3 and 4 of the crown)

the story. After suffering a serious injury, Tashi, an exceptional tennis player, became a coach. She decided to devote herself to her husband Art’s career, taking him from a mediocre player to a Grand Slam champion. After a recent string of defeats, she wants him to participate in the “Challenger” tournament where he will face Patrick, his former best friend and… Tashi’s ex-lover!

Love… The road to tennis. When it comes to sports (with the exception of boxing), cinema rarely matches the quality of broadcast television. In this sense, the United are an exception. With his way of bringing matches to life and also describing the rigors of high-level sport where all that matters is winning. Here, any weakness, even if it is minimal, is exploited by the opponent, through words and gestures. This is what comforts the story of the loving trio, in which the little yellow ball plays an essential role.

We like less… Disappointing result. It is difficult to understand what happens in the final stage when the oiled machine completely breaks down and the camera starts moving in all directions for no reason. Above all, since the director had up until then avoided all psychological clichés, Tashi suddenly turned into the woman who destroys friendships. Damage.
