It is important to remember: skin is a living tissue that has texture. The ultra-smoothed and filtered, blemish-free faces we constantly see on social media do not in any way reflect reality. Dark circles under the eyes, wrinkles, brown spots, rosacea – our skin is a testament to our journey, our history, our lifestyle habits. However, clogged pores can lead to a variety of problems, including blackheads and whiteheads. We reveal to you 10 tips to unlock them.

What causes clogged pores?

Clogged pores are caused by the accumulation of dead skin cells and sebum over time. What about the nature of pores themselves? “The size and number of pores vary greatly depending on gender, location on the body and ethnicity.”explains dermatologist Tiffany J. Libby in the magazine. Birdie. “Like many other characteristics, they are largely the result of genetics.”.

Comedones, or blackheads, form when pores become clogged. “This leads to increased sebum production, inflammation and more acne. When sebum accumulates, microcomedones are formed. There are two types of comedones: closed comedones (whiteheads) and open comedones (blackheads).”explains dermatologist Naana Boakye.

She also extols the virtues of retinoids. “Retinoids [aident] stimulate the production of collagen, which also tightens the skin and tightens pores”. Another solution is toexfoliation with lactic acid. “I would recommend using Greek yogurt, which contains lactic acid enzymes to remove dead skin cells and may be more beneficial for improving pores without the high risk of irritation.”– advises Rachel Nazarian, also a dermatologist.
