Do you often have panic attacks in the middle of the night? Here’s how to fix it

Anxiety attacks that occur in the middle of the night can be particularly distressing, but are unfortunately quite common for many people. The cause may be stress accumulated during the day or poor sleep. If an attack of agnosia wakes you in the middle of the night, remain calm and try to behave in a way that calms your body and mind.

Here’s how to manage a panic attack in four steps.

1. If you regularly have panic attacks, always keep an insulated bottle with ice cubes near your bed. Whenever you are stressed, take a few ice cubes in your palm and take a deep breath. Cool sensations can help calm physical symptoms of anxiety, such as rapid breathing or a racing heart.

2. Sit on the floor, leaning against a wall, and press down with your back. This is often called the grounding or anchoring method. Pressing against a hard surface, such as a wall or furniture, can help you feel a sense of stability and security, which can help reduce anxiety.

3. Occupy your mind with relatively simple tasks, such as folding laundry or washing dishes. This technique will help you focus on the present moment and quickly reduce stress.

4. Do a relaxing activity to calm your body, such as reading a book or taking a hot shower. Warm water will help relax tense muscles and relieve tension.
