Swim and scrub: Olympic triathletes prepare to face the dirty Seine – Morocco Local and world news | Jewish news from Morocco, breaking news | מרוקו ג׳וייש טימשס, האדם מרוקו והאולאם | Morocco News

Triathlon is a sport that includes swimming, cycling and running. But as triathletes around the world prepare for the Paris Olympics this summer, they may need to add a fourth activity: cleaning.

British triathlete Mike Cavendish said British triathletes would be sprayed with disinfectant after each swim in the Seine, which runs through the center of Paris.

Cavendish says he intends to use a product called Hibiscrub to ensure British triathletes don’t get sick after swimming in the river.

Teams from all over the world have drawn up plans to deal with the pollution of the Seine.

Recent tests have found high levels of the E. coli bacteria in the water, and some have suggested that the swimming part of the triathlon may not take place at all if the Seine is not clean enough.

According to Mr. Cavendish, the problem is not limited to consuming dirty water. “It’s when you go out and put your hands to your mouth and eyes,” he shared Guardian.

British triathletes have also been urged to eat plenty of probiotics, including yoghurt, to prepare their bodies for water pollution.

Cavendish hopes this will help prepare their stomachs for the contaminated water they may swallow.

France has spent nearly $1.5 billion trying to make the Seine safe for swimming for the first time in more than 100 years.

The water in the river will be tested every day during the Olympics, which begin on July 26.

The men’s triathlon runs on July 30, the women’s race a day later and the mixed triathlon on August 5.

However, in the event of heavy rain before the events – which can worsen water pollution – they may be postponed to other dates.
