Rabat – The city of Rabat, in the person of its mayor, Fatiha El Moudni, was elected president of the International Network for Urban Lighting (Lighting Urban Community International-LUCI) during its Annual General Assembly, held from April 24 to 27 in Montpellier. in France, the city council was notified.

Rabat, the city of light and the Moroccan capital of culture, becomes the first African and Arab city to occupy this position since the creation of this network in 2002, which brings together 73 cities and 43 affiliated members who share the belief that light contributes to sustainable and sustainable urban development. development on the socio-economic development of cities.

In addition to Rabat, the LUCI office includes the cities of Montpellier (France), as first vice president, Seoul (South Korea), second vice president Glasgow (Scotland), elected to the treasury, as well as the cities of Eindhoven (Netherlands), Helsinki and Oulu (Finland) and London ( England), as members.

On this occasion, the mayor of Rabat, Fatiha El Moudni, expressed her pride in chairing LUCI and her determination to promote the activities of this network.

“As president, I will focus all my efforts on strengthening ties between members, promoting best practices and encouraging the adoption of smart and sustainable lighting solutions in cities around the world,” Ms. El Moudni said in a statement to MAP.

“We are confident that with these actions, LUCI will continue to advance as a global platform for knowledge exchange and cooperation to improve urban lighting,” she emphasized.

Launched in 2014, the “Rabat-Ville Lumière” program is an integrated royal project that has initiated a great dynamic at the city level both in terms of lighting and in terms of urban planning and social inclusion, as well as proudly exporting to the whole world, we assure the city hall of the capital .

Furthermore, a week earlier, the mayor of Rabat participated in the work of the Executive Office of the World Organization of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), which was held from April 17 to 20 in San José, Costa Rica, under the theme “People Power”.

Addressing the work of the Committee on Statutory Issues, Mrs. El Moudni expressed her strong commitment to the dynamics of UCLG, while ensuring continuity in the projects and incentive actions undertaken by the Capital of the Kingdom, with the aim of promoting democracy. , cooperation and social inclusion.

She also highlighted the role of political leaders in accelerating the implementation of the SDGs, through collective investment, promotion of multiple partnerships, capacity building, communication and exchange of experiences in local governance issues.

Ms El Moudni, also UCLG Treasurer, also took part in the 20 year celebration of the UCLG union, and participated in discussions and recommendations arising from this work.
