How this safety accessory wants to become your guardian angel on your bike

Baltee Mobility was present at the Vélo In Paris 2024 festival to present its safety device called B-01. Anti-theft alarm, fall detector, emergency call button, emergency contact: this connected module will become your real guardian angel on your bike or even your electric scooter.

Baltee Mobility is more than a startup in Rennes, it is a family entrepreneurial adventure. Armand Furtane founded the company two years ago with his father, raising two rounds of fundraising thanks to the so-called Love Money funding method – relatives and friends invest in your company, a person told us at the Vélo In Paris 2024 festival.

With 180,000 euros in his pocket, Balti wants to offer the perfect solution for your safety on your bike. How ? Thanks to the connected device B-01, which has many functions. It attaches with a quarter turn directly to the brand’s SmartFix post and is compatible with 22mm, 25.4mm or 31.8mm wide handlebars. The device also features a patented locking system that can be controlled from the app to prevent theft.

Emergency contact and SOS button

The idea behind the B-01 is simple: for example, if you fall, the Baltee B-01 will support you. “There is a fall detector that communicates via email, SMS and shares your location with your emergency contacts previously entered into the app.” and it ends after 15 seconds. It is during this allotted time that you must press the module’s main button to prevent the system from reaching your emergency contacts.

The SOS button allows you to contact emergency contacts by simply pressing it for 3 seconds. “If you feel bad, if you have been attacked, support yourself and make contact.“, explains Arman Furtane. This can be very useful at night if you feel danger is approaching.

In the event of suspicious movement, an audible alarm is the first deterrent. After 5 seconds, the alarm increases to 100 decibels, which becomes even more alarming for the thief. Additionally, a notification is sent directly to your phone alerting you to the situation.

If you accidentally set an alarm, simply use the app or enter the code directly on your device to stop everything.

Two types of sound notification

Finally, this safety assistant acts as a warning signal to other road users: a short press produces a short, high-pitched sound at 60 decibels, while a long press produces a more powerful signal at 100 decibels.

Protected from rain and dust (IP65), weighing 80 grams and autonomous for 8 days, Baltee B-01 will receive an official launch in September. Current reservations made on the site will receive their device in advance in June.

Future, more community service

From 2025, Baltee Mobility will strive to make its application and its system more community-oriented, namely by creating a mutual aid community. For example, everyone around will be able to receive a notification in the event of an SOS signal or a fall, provided that they also have a Baltee B-01.

This security device costs 149 euros including tax.
