Laurent Nicollin announces a “drastic” drop in the women’s budget

Sixth in D1 Arkéma, the Montpellier women will not qualify for the next Champions League. This new failure pushes Laurent Nicollin to revise down the budget of the team coached by Yannick Chandioux.

Montpellier is a historic club in French women’s football, and has gone through a weak period for several seasons. If Lyon and PSG remain the locomotives on the European stage, MHSC suffers from the rise of other teams, such as Paris FC, Reims or Fleury. A situation that annoys Laurent Nicollin.

While the Montpellier women will finish 6th in the championship at best this year, the president has decided to “drastically” reduce the budget for next season. “We are a historic club and that makes me stronger, I’m a competitor, I want my girls to be in the top 3. When only one club was European we were always second, so when it changed to two qualifiers, we third and now that there are three tickets… Goodbye calf, cow and pig,” he told Midi Libre.

The training center at the heart of the project

Frustrated by the results of the team, which has not finished in the top 4 in D1 in four years, Laurent Nicollin laments “a sense of waste” while the budget allocated to the section “has been quite high for three or four years”. To restart the machine, the president made the decision to focus on structuring the training center to “establish a healthy foundation”.

“I no longer want to invest wasted funds in players coming from I don’t know where. We are going to go with players trained at the club, with strong young potential and with a different state of mind because I have to change it, I like neither,” complained Laurent Nicollin, quite “annoyed” by the turn of events.
