Société Générale and JP Energie Environnement sign a twenty-year contract for the supply of solar energy

The Société Générale group announces the signing of a 20-year contract for the supply of solar energy (Power Purchase Agreement – PPA*) with the French producer JP Energie Environnement (JPee), allowing the creation of a photovoltaic power plant in France becomes possible. An initiative that is part of the shared ambition of the two companies to accelerate the development of new production capacities from green energy for the energy transition.

This long-term commitment aims to create a photovoltaic power plant in the town of Arpheuilles (18) in the Centre-Val de Loire region. The electricity production of this plant, expected to be delivered in 2026, is intended to cover between 10% and 15% of the annual consumption of the bank’s plant and network services in France, i.e. an amount of energy estimated at 16 .7 GWh per year.

The project consists of the exploitation by the producer of 14.2 hectares of pasture on one of the parts of the Arpheuilles solar park and ensures the maintenance of the agricultural activities on site (sheepfold and sheep breeding). The energy produced by the installation of solar panels, chosen for their low carbon footprint, will be injected into the French electricity network.

This new contract helps strengthen the competitive position of the independent producer JPee in the renewable energy market in France. The PPA framework makes it easier to obtain project financing and enables the establishment of new installations and new investments. This is the fourth long-term electricity supply contract that the producer has concluded since 2023.

This initiative demonstrates Societe Generale’s commitment to the energy transition and is part of the low-carbon trajectory of the Group’s activities. In 2019, Société Générale was the first bank in France and one of the first companies to sign a three-year wind energy supply contract with EDF.

*A PPA is a contract that allows a consumer to meet part of his needs by purchasing green electricity from a producer of electricity from renewable sources (wind, solar, hydraulic) with a view to the price for the entire contract period. This solution aims to promote the development of renewable energy sources by allowing producers to guarantee their income over several years and letting customers know the origin of their supply.
