In a match against Valencia marked by several mistakes and two big balls from the goalkeepers, Marc-André Ter Stegen, the Barça goalkeeper, was the first to go through, on a failed diving attempt.
It’s meatloaf night. As Barça quietly led 1-0 against Valencia after Fermin Lopez’s opener, Blaugrana captain Marc-André Ter Stegen stood out with a big blunder. On a harmless ball given in depth to Hugo Duro, but too long for the Valencia striker, the German completely lost the intervention.
Probably too presumptuous, Ter Stegen tried to dribble past Hugo Duro with a low dive rather than clearing or finding a partner. The move was bold, but the German missed it. Duro, very pleased, managed to control the ball with his chest and followed up with a left-footed shot into the empty goal to equalise.

Ten minutes later, Ronald Araujo also made a huge mistake with a risky tackle in the open field on Peter Gonzalez. The penalty was obvious and it was converted by Pepelu to put Valencia, 7th in La Liga, in front of the scoreboard. Araujo was even lucky not to receive any cards for his failed intervention.
Just before the break, Giorgi Mamardashvili, the Valencia goalkeeper, would finally join this original evening. On a harmless return pass, the Georgian missed control and sent the ball ten meters further, into the feet of Lamine Yamal. While trying to make up for his mistake, he touched the ball with his arm outside the area and was shown a red card after VAR intervention. Perhaps a story of solidarity between guards.
