The importance of good sleep

When I was working, caring for three children and leading an active social life with my husband, I would be so tired in the evening that I would fall asleep with my head on the pillow. That didn’t stop me from often feeling tired and needing to rest on the weekends. But I slept well.

So I dreamed of going to bed the way I wanted. Now that my husband and I have been retired for a year, it seems that sleep has left me. Not the need for sleep, but the ability to fall asleep.

I toss and turn in bed and can’t fall asleep, but my husband always falls asleep just as well. It’s frustrating, you can’t figure out how. Moreover, even if I sleep for a few hours, I wake up just as tired as the day before. I dare not consult for such a short time, but I need advice before I resign myself to taking sleeping pills, which I am told can become habit-forming.
