the spectacular construction site begins above the Jonage Canal

A major construction site has begun on the Jonage canal and the Laurent Bonnevay bypass between Villeurbanne and Vaulx-en-Veline. From May 8 to 12, a major intervention is planned for the construction of the funnel of the new engineering facility in Croix-Luizet, which will accommodate the bridge for the future T9 tram line, as well as for pedestrians and cyclists.

These operations are described by Sytral, in charge of the site, as a “reinforcement operation for the future T9 line”. This project, which should connect Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie with Charpennes by 2026, requires special developments, the most spectacular of which is the construction of a new engineering structure that will cross the Canal de Jonage in Villeurbanne.

This new infrastructure, located next to the Roulet bridge, will allow the passage of trams, cyclists and pedestrians, offering a panoramic view of the canal. Ramps on each side of the bridge will connect the high platforms to the low platforms, facilitating access to the ViaRhôna, Voies Lyonnaises and Blue Ring promenades.

In addition to the new bridge, a bunker intended for active driving (pedestrians and cyclists) will be built to cross the bypass, which will facilitate circulation for these users. At the same time, two additional projects are being carried out: an underground reservoir reserved for pedestrians and cyclists in May 2024, then a new bridge for the T9 tram, which will be worked on until the end of 2025.

The first step is to create a bunker under the ring road, which will require the almost complete closure of the Lyon ring road from May 8 to 12. This extraordinary intervention will last a total of 108 hours and will involve 80 people. The underpass will consist of three concrete frames weighing over 600 tons.

In the meantime, work continues on the construction of the pillars of the new bridge in the Canal de Jonage, as well as on the entire route to prepare the roads and free up the space needed for the infrastructure works on the transport system and the urban development of the future T9. . Commissioning of T9 is planned sometime in 2026.
