There’s still a little time to take advantage of the rain garden grant.

WEDNESDAY. The Yamaska Watershed Organization’s (OBV) rain garden grant program is coming to an end. 2024 is the last year that citizens of the region, including Lac Brome, which signed the three-year agreement, can receive financial assistance for such open development.

This subsidy program is part of OBV’s Rainwater Revolution project.

Financial support can cover up to 50% of the cost of creating a rain garden, including labor and plant purchases, up to a maximum of $1,000.

Support from OBV Yamaska for land assessment and development planning is also offered, as well as a report that calculates the garden area and the required materials as well as substrate.

Therefore, the City of Lac Brome’s budget for this project is $10,000.

To be eligible for the subsidy, the owners of a residential or commercial building in Lac Brome must not have already received financial assistance from the municipality in connection with this project.

An OBV technician should also evaluate the project.

At least half of the plants planted in a rain garden should be native.

RAIN GARDEN

A rain garden is used, among other things, to infiltrate rainwater into the ground and prevent it from entering various waterways.

A specific mixture of soil and plants characteristic of this type of development is used.

Up to 85% of the water running off a roof through a gutter can be absorbed by a rain garden.
