In a joint press release, the two confederations, which will organize the men’s World Cup together with Canada in 2026, explain that this decision will allow them to better prepare for the 2031 edition.
“This deferred application will allow U.S. Soccer to build on the experience and success of the 2026 World Cup, to better assist the host cities, expand our contracts with sponsors and media, and better rally the fans to organize a record edition in 2031”we can read in the press release.
FIFA must vote on the award of the 2027 Women’s World Cup in two weeks at its congress in Bangkok.
Two files remain on the table, the joint candidacy of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands and that of Brazil.
