Soccer: USA Saint-Malo champion, three days before the end of the season

The calculation was simple before the start of the match against Croix-Blanche Angers on Sunday 28 April 2024, at the Marville stadium, in Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine). A win allowed the Diablesses to return to D2, a year after leaving it.

The start of the match, however, saw the Angevines open the scoring, to put a chill in Marville’s bays (20′, 0-1).

It was approaching the break and it was the moment chosen by Laure Robert to put the two teams back to back (40′, 1-1), before she saw Elisa Aubert imitate her to give the advantage to her colors and change in the lead before the break (2-1, 42′).

An offensive festival to take the title

From the restart, Anastasia Soulac allowed her team to take a bigger margin (3-1, 51′). At the beginning of the last quarter, Kelly Koné (4-1, 68′), then Emma Amprimo (5-1, 73′) sealed the outcome of the match, before the visitors reduced the distance (5 -2.88′) ).

The whistle sparked joy and emotion in the Saint-Malo camp, with t-shirts prepared for the occasion reading “D3F Champions 2023/2024”. A fantastic team of champions, with a title achieved three days after the end, showing the dominance of Roland Jamelot’s players in this championship. They will have gradually abandoned their competitors such as Stade Brestois, La Roche-sur-Yon, Bourges, Roubaix and CPB Bréquigny.

Return to D2 in an extremely tough championship

The season is not over, but the excitement has disappeared, the Devils will still have three days with the title of D3 champion in their pocket. After that, it’s time to turn to the next season, and what a season…

Judge for yourself, the final Division 2 group for the 2024/2025 season is not yet known, but we can already now give some names and not least. Lille and Bordeaux (who come down from D1 Arkema), Nice and Lens (remained in D2) and a few teams whose futures are not yet sealed at the moment. We are particularly thinking of Nantes, Marseille, Rodez, Orléans, Thonon Evian and Metz.
