The race for artificial intelligence has its advantages, but also disadvantages: in particular, it can affect the performance of your computer. Some manufacturers have decided to clarify the situation, and this may help you see the situation more clearly.

Artificial intelligence is present everywhere or almost: what is certain is that In a few years, it will be hard to imagine buying a high-tech device that doesn’t use AI, and the same will be true for computers. Today we mostly use artificial intelligence from a web browser via a remote server. However, some AI, notably Copilot in Windows 11, components related to calculation methods are becoming increasingly in demand.

But after, How do you know if you have a computer suitable for artificial intelligence? This is a real question, and the answer is not always easy to find.

Dell’s response to “AI-enabled Windows PCs”

On the support page published on April 9, Dell brand answers questions on this topic. “These computers are equipped with specialized hardware and software to effectively solve artificial intelligence and machine learning problems. They are designed to increase productivity, unleash creativity and transform the way we work.”, can we read on the page.

Among the elements presented as important for achieving an optimal user experience with AI are: there is a neural processor or NPU. “NPUs are optimized to perform the complex calculations required by deep learning algorithms”– Dell explains. If there is an NPU inside the machine, then it is inside the processor with which it is equipped.

Which processors have NPUs for AI tasks?

Not all processors, including the latest ones, have an NPU by default. Dell, in particular, quotes new Intel Core Ultra processors, as well as AMD Ryzen 7000 and 8000 and Snapdragon 8cx Gen2 from Qualcommas well as higher models.

You can bet that future processors from different manufacturers will have them as standard. But if your processor is older, You can check whether it has an NPU quite easily.

To find out if your current processor has an NPU, Open the task manager via CTRL+ALT+DEL and click “Performance level”.second option in the left menu. If you have an NPU, it will simply appear in the list.

Just because you don’t have one doesn’t mean you can’t use AI on your machine., but the experience will not be as good as on a computer with an NPU. Think about this next time you decide to redo your configuration!
