A consultation “Children’s pathologies and pesticides” has opened at the University Hospital of Amiens

For several years, scientific research has examined the link between exposure to pollutants and some birth defects, some types of cancer, or even infertility problems. In 2021, France became the first country in the world to create a compensation fund for pesticide victims.

In the fall of 2023, the first consultation “Pediatric Pathologies and Pesticides” was opened at the Amiens University Hospital in the north to study these files. Its principle: to support parents of children exposed to pesticides during pregnancy or at a young age and suffering from leukemia, brain tumors or genital malformations. Since the opening of this consultation, approximately thirty patients have been seen. Sylvain Chamot, responsible for this consultation, explains this to Charlie Dupiot:

“The goal is for cases to eventually be identified and to raise awareness of this little-known problem: pesticides have the potential to make children sick. »
