His brain was erased at two years old: “Stairs” of life

On January 19, 2019, little Paul’s life changed, and with it, the lives of his parents. Due to the high temperature, the two-year-old boy suffered from seizures, and, unfortunately, the consequences were so serious that Paul will never be the same again.

He suffered a severe head injury and had to be put into a coma. When he finally wakes up, he doesn’t remember anything. He can neither speak nor walk. Even his eyes don’t react anymore.

“It’s hard for parents,” said Matt Charland, Paul’s father.

Paul has to learn everything all over again. He manages to overcome the trials… partially. The brain lesion is located near the speech center. Five years after this traumatic event, the boy still has not spoken. He’s not quite the same anymore either.

But out of the shadows comes this calm and cheerful personality that his parents loved so much.

“We live in a different reality,” the father explained.

Despite the pain and sadness, the parents decide to move forward, hold on to life and overcome difficulties. They simply refuse to give up.

Matt is a director. He has a reflex to turn the lens on his son with a very specific idea: to show him the beauty of the world and help others benefit from it. The landscapes are fabulous, the mountains are huge, the sun is majestic. However, what pleases little Paul most, what makes him smile every time, what attracts his attention more than anything else is Stair tabernacles. An inspiring documentary about a story full of hope.
