Basketball. The scenario that would qualify Le Mans for the playoffs at the end of the final day

Combined with the other results of the weekend, the great victory at Le Mans against Limoges (101-75), on Sunday 5 May, allowed Sarthois to maintain their hopes of reaching the play-offs at the end of the final day of the championship, Saturday 11 May (19.15 ).

To do this, Elric Delord’s players must first win in Dijon while the Burgundians can also secure a place in the top 8 if they succeed.

It then becomes a question of turning to other fields because three conditions must be met to allow Manceaux to advance in the elimination phases. First, Nancy, who no longer have a chance to play in the playoffs, must win at home against Gravelines Dunkerque, who are already upheld. Second, Cholet, who need just one success to qualify, must win at home against Chalon-sur-Saône, also maintained. Finally, Strasbourg, still in the race for the top 8, must win at Saint-Quentin, assured of continuing the season in case of a win, but with 22 points or less.

Thus, Le Mans would be tied at 16 successes with Nancy, Strasbourg and Saint-Quentin, and the four teams would show a record of three wins and three losses in the matches played between them, this is therefore the point difference in these direct confrontations that would decide between them: in this game MSB would have the advantage unless Strasbourg wins by 23 points or more in Saint-Quentin.

If Cholet, two-time winner of the MSB, entered the equation with a loss or Nancy, largely beaten by Manceaux in the first leg (98-66, November 11), would lose, on the other hand, it would not be plus Sarthois who would pull the chestnuts from the fire.

In summary:

The scenario that will qualify the MSB at the end of the last day is as follows: victory for Sarthoise in Dijon + success for Cholet against Chalon-sur-Saône + victory for Nancy against Gravelines Dunkerque + loss for Saint-Quentin against Strasbourg by 22 points or less .

The rules for deciding which team or teams are tied

The rules for deciding between one or more tied teams appear in Article 343 of the Statutes and Regulations of the National Basketball League:

“If two or more teams have the same win/loss ratio recorded over all matches in the group, the match(s) played between these two or more teams will determine the ranking. If two or more teams have the same win/loss ratio recorded over all matches between themselves, the following criteria will be used in the following order:

– Biggest point difference in matches played between them (goal average);

– Greater number of points in matches played between them;

– Biggest points difference across all group matches (goal average);

– Highest number of points in all group matches;

If these criteria are still not sufficient, a tie will determine the ranking.

If one or more layers can be classified at any stage of the application of these criteria, the above procedure must be repeated from the beginning to place the layers that remain to be classified. »
