The new center for oncology, radiotherapy and neuroradiosurgery of the Lyon Hospice, opened on April 30, has been operating since January 2024. This building, accommodating about 1,500 people, is located near the Pierre Wertheimer hospital in Bron and is connected to it by an air gallery. m² complements the care offer already existing at the Lyon Sud hospital (four particle accelerators and the first Linac Elekta Unity MRI in France).
Investments 19.5 million euros
The Bron Center includes two latest-generation particle accelerators and a Gamma Knife, the first of which is installed in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. This advanced neuroradiosurgery device allows brain surgery without opening the skull and treats small tumors (less than 3 cm) or tumors located deep in the brain that were previously inoperable. More than 350 patients have already used the Gamma Knife, installed in just 4 university hospitals in France.
The total cost of investment (works + equipment) is 19.5 million euros. Every year, 800 to 900 patients will undergo radiation therapy at the new center.
