Africa’s energy transition involves complex trade-offs.

For many African nations, mitigating the threat of climate change while pursuing socio-economic development and widespread prosperity for citizens will involve complex trade-offs.

The continent has a large and young population, mostly unemployed or underemployed, that will need sustained economic growth to achieve development goals – growth that will have to occur simultaneously with climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Although these two endeavors are inextricably linked, they are rarely analyzed simultaneously in academic research.
