Measles, whooping cough, meningitis, parvovirus… Viruses and bacteria are actively circulating in France, causing a number of, sometimes serious, infections. Isabelle Paran du Châtelet, an epidemiologist at the French Department of Public Health, deciphers this phenomenon as “Liberation.”

Warnings from French health authorities about a resurgence of infectious diseases have been piling up for weeks: measles, an ultra-contagious disease that causes coughing, high fever, skin rashes and even serious complications; then invasive meningococcal infections, including meningitis and brain infections; whooping cough and its characteristic cough; and finally parvovirus, a childhood disease that is often benign, although it can lead to serious cases, especially in pregnant women, and can be recognized by the red spots that form on the cheeks.

Less than three months before the start of the Paris Olympics, which are expected to attract millions of tourists to France, health experts are calling for vigilance. Isabel P.
