SAccording to this report, Morocco, along with other countries such as South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia, Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Mali, is among the leading countries transmitting migratory flows on the continent.

In terms of receiving funds, Morocco is positioned in the top 20 in the world, accumulating more than 11 billion dollars in 2022, which represents 8% of its GDP. This figure illustrates the significant importance of remittances compared to foreign direct investment, especially in developing countries.

The report also highlights internal challenges, including mass displacement caused by natural disasters such as droughts and forest fires, which displaced 9,500 people from their homes in northern Morocco in 2022.

As for migratory routes, the IOM document indicates that the route from Morocco to Spain is particularly dangerous. He also notes that irregular migration to Europe often takes place via sea routes leading from North Africa and the Middle East to Italy, or from West Africa to the Canary Islands.

Finally, the report reveals that nearly 2,800 people died or went missing in 2022 during these dangerous crossings, along the Central Mediterranean Route, the Atlantic Route to West Africa, the Western Mediterranean Route and other West and Central African routes.
