Pierre, his first assistant, watches. He signals with his hand to pedestrians to stop. This is to reduce parasitic noise during footage. “But it’s also nice to have, as we take pictures in the atmosphere of a busy street,” explains one of the sound technicians.

“What’s more complicated today is the weather, it’s just changing. You have to pay attention to the light,” Pierre explains. The ten students are in place, and the still photo is taken before the amused eyes of the Foxes.

Even if everything is well prepared in advance, you have to know how to improvise. Outside, the framing problem. “It would take a long time to lower the camera any further, so we would have the actor walk on boxes. “We are cheating, that is the magic of cinema,” laughs one of the student directors.

At work, we call the manager Patrick Salami to clear the dishes. “It’s very nice, the interior of the store is gorgeous, and there’s nothing to do,” says Pierre.

Meanwhile, director Thomas delivers his final predictions to the actor. The latter plays the role of a young man who steals valuable items and resells them, in order to prevent his family from falling into poverty.

“It’s great, I was able to find things.”

The second-hand goods dealer follows the filming process from the street, where he sets up his belongings that were in the way of the filming. And he is pleased. “This is great! It allowed me to find things I had put under tables that I hadn’t touched for 8 or 10 years.

The director is not ashamed of his happiness in attending the filming. He is amazed by the filmmakers: “These guys are good and serious. They repeat the shots several times. The cook opposite helped them as well, setting up benches and chairs for them. “I’m happy, it’s changed a little bit and it’s picking up.”

“Cinema is frustrating,” admits the entire team, when we observe all the preparatory work needed “for a few minutes.”

Before shooting indoors, you should bring all the equipment from outside, retest the framing with the camera, check the sound quality, and install the microphones. The student keeps going in and out to adjust the lighting on his camera. Decoration is checked. The actor’s movement was modified so that the technicians could move.

It will take 15 days to edit the film, which will be screened at various festivals, including the Los Angeles festival, in a few months.
