His funeral will be held on Tuesday in Beaujolais

TV presenter and writer Bernard Pivot’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 14, in Quincy-en-Beaujolais, in the Rhône, his childhood village, before an upcoming tribute in Paris, his daughter said on Thursday. The religious ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the small church in the village where the host of the “breaks” was a municipal councilor and owned a house.

Bernard Pivot, who died on Monday at the age of 89, will be buried in the town as he wanted. “Wine and books are the links that connect me to Quincy” and “I know that a place is waiting for me in the cemetery at my father’s grave,” he told the regional daily Le Progrès in 2018.

Quincié’s library bears his name. “The mayor takes his car out twice a year to come pick up several hundred books that I donate to the library,” he said at the time.

The literary journalist also gave his name every year to a family from the Quincié-en-Beaujolais cooperative cellar. He also announced in 2016: “I have a physical relationship with Beaujolais, an earthly relationship.”

Condolences were unanimous when his death was announced. The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, estimated that “this smuggler, popular and in demand, will remain dear to the hearts of the French.”
