A number of projects are ongoing on the Moon. The Chinese space agency wants, for example, to send a probe there in the coming years to be able to study the hidden side. Today it is NASA who reveals his plans for our star, and they may be quite unexpected.
On May 2, NASA presented six projects selected as part of its program. NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC). Each of the selected companies will receive US$600,000 to further develop their work. Thus, the purpose of NIAC is very simple: to finance certain companies with the aim of enabling them to overcome certain obstacles that are preventing them from developing properly.

And one of her projects is aimed at building a railway system right on the Moon! It’s about “SWIM“, for flexible levitation on the track. Please note that we are not talking about a custom transport system here, as we see almost everywhere, but rather a cargo system that should be able to transport payloads across the various areas of the Moon that will be served.
This railway line will not work the way we are used to. A path laid on the ground will allow magnetic robots located in levitation to move. Sustainable, this transport system could be powered by electromagnetic propulsion, diamagnetic levitation and, finally, solar energy. Implementation 2030 they even hope so.

These characteristics will allow it to hover and therefore not suffer from the abrasion and wear that occurs due to lunar dust in particular. This allows us to hope for complete and total effectiveness in the long term. Finally, it remains to be seen whether all this is possible. In theory, the answer is yes. But in practice, building a transport station directly on the Moon remains a little more difficult.
