The Algerian president confirms his support for the Polisario in front of the generals

Yesterday, Algeria celebrated a “day of remembrance”, set in 2020 by the current president Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in honor of the hundreds of Algerians who were killed by the French army on May 8, 1945 in Kherrata.

The commemoration was marked by the speech of the head of state, which he gave from the Ministry of Defense and in front of the generals. Even if the speech was full of messages aimed at France, the former colonial power, Tebboune wanted to reaffirm his country’s support for the Polisario.

“The people of the Sahara must organize a referendum, either to gain independence or to choose other decisions. Sahrawis are the ones who decide and no one will decide for them. There are young people who were born in the camps (in Tindouf, Algeria, editor’s note) and have reached the age of 45. The UN must play its role. There is a people whose fate is still waiting. Decolonization must be accelerated, we will never abandon the Sahrawi people,” he said to the applause of the Algerian army general.
