To circulate in certain areas of Paris at least before the start of the Olympic Games, you will soon have to show your ID with a QR code. (FRANCE 2)

A QR code will be necessary for people who want to circulate within a perimeter around the Seine and the Olympic sites, to identify and exclude “dangerous” profiles. The platform to request it opens on Friday.

To circulate in certain areas of Paris, you will soon have to show your ID. Less than 80 days before the start of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, the police headquarters in Paris will open on Friday 10 may an online platform to request a special QR code, which will be essential to be able to access certain areas of the perimeter. of the security planned in the capital.

What will the online platform bring together? Who must get hold of the precious sesame seed? to go where? Franceinfo takes stock.

1 Where and when will the QR code be mandatory?

It all depends on the period. From Thursday 18 July to Friday 26 July, the day of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, the QR code will be mandatory to move within a security perimeter called Silt (for internal security and the fight against terrorism), on foot as on a bicycle. In addition to the quays, this zone established along the Seine will stretch from the Trocadéro to the Porte de Bercy, passing through the Louvre sector, the Tuileries Garden or the Île de la Cité.

The silt security perimeter and non-motorized zone will also be extended to certain additional areas on the day of the opening ceremony, as detailed in the map below.

Once the opening ceremony is over, most of the perimeter will be reopened to traffic. However, this will be highly regulated in the vicinity of the Olympic venues.

2 Who needs a QR code?

All those who want to go to areas where the QR code is mandatory, whether they are residents, barge owners, traders, people working in the sector… And even tourists, customers of restaurants in the area or relief.

Certain vehicles (PDF) will also gain access to the non-motorized perimeter, larger than Silt, but only in very specific cases, and there also by presenting a QR code: municipal police, emergency vehicles, emergency repairs, funeral homes, vehicles for local residents with private parking within the circumference…

3 Why did you introduce this system?

The goal of this system is to achieve “security controls (…) to ensure that no dangerous person can gain access to the security perimeters” explained the Minister of the Interior to Parisian in April. This is why you need to provide more information to get your QR code: “surname, first name, date of birth, etc.”shows Gérald Darmanin.

“The issuance of the passport may take a few days due to time constraints related to administrative investigations”, rightly warns the Paris police headquarters, which strongly recommends registering before the perimeter comes into force. So don’t worry if you don’t get a response immediately after your request.

4 Are there other possible methods of getting around Paris?

Even if you do not have a QR code, you will not be prevented from crossing the Seine. It will be possible to cross the perimeter without stopping by crossing one of the five bridges open to the passage. “There will be four crossing bridges open to vehicular traffic: Notre-Dame, Sully, Iéna and Invalides, plus a pedestrian bridge, the Léopold-Sédar Senghor footbridge, which will allow crossing the anti-terror perimeter.”detailed Gérald Darmanin at Parisian.

Some places near the Seine, such as the Louvre, the Orsay Museum or the Arab World Institute, will still be accessible via certain entrances outside the anti-terror perimeter. To access it, you must have reserved your tickets and present an identity document. But be careful, these entrance tickets will not correspond to QR codes and therefore will not allow access within the Silt perimeter.

5 What about people who cannot access the platform?

If your phone is out of battery, or for people who have problems with the Internet, the sesame can be presented on a smartphone as in physical format. A campaign of “door to door” and towing is also planned by the Ministry of the Interior in collaboration with Paris City Hall to help people in situations of illiteracy. “We want to help people register”explained Gérald Darmanin. “The police will exercise judgement: if a 95-year-old gentleman comes with his identity document, we will do the job with him.”
