Khaled Medawar has been playing Laurent Berthier, the L Cosmétiques accountant, in Un si grand Soleil since 2018. An actor and director, he was at Cannes when we spoke to him about making his first feature film, which is scheduled to be shot in 2025.
Accountant at L Cosmétiques, I’ve had a lot of romantic setbacks. Recently, you thought you found love through an app. Despite the warnings, I went for it.
Bertier is the heart of the artichoke. He had problems with his wife who was a bit of a castrator. Berthier is rather a charitable person, so it was difficult to see him with this kind of woman even if he loved her. He makes very good decisions within L Cosmétiques, but very bad decisions for his personal life. He still made the decision to divorce to find someone who suits him. By searching the networks. Find. But unfortunately, as often happens, it’s a societal fact, we think we’ve found the right person over the net but realize it was all ‘fake’.
Do you think you’ve alerted viewers who might be concerned about these “sponsors” posing as lonely partners?
I find this to be an important and current topic. I thank the authors for that. We must be careful. It happens often. We see it in the news. I have people around me who have fallen for these scams. Just one more alert and we’ll win.
On the beach, at the end of your rope, you had an unexpected meeting, a meeting with Natalie. Tell us about this seemingly complicated story?
We know Natalie’s setbacks, her character, her character. Once again, Bertier’s character comes across as someone who is the exact opposite of what he could be. Since he has an artichoke heart, he will fall deeply in love with this woman. A very beautiful adventure full of pitfalls will soon appear. I won’t say more. But there are a lot of twists and turns. It’s an interesting take on Berthier’s character.
Do you enjoy playing this role?
When I started creating this character, I wondered what she might look like. Immediately, an image of Winnie the Pooh came to mind (laughs). Because he is a caring and loving personality and is available to everyone except himself. Unfortunately. But at the same time, Berthier is Zorro. Meaning it provides important things in L Cosmétiques regarding accounting. It also helps others. Berthier, he’s between Winnie and Zorro.
In your role as an accountant, your North African origins are not dominant. This is good ?
Yes. Whether your name is Laurent, Rachid, Khaled, an effective accountant is an effective accountant. Hence many people of North African descent have a Western first name. This is very smart on the part of the writers and producers.
When you were younger, we wanted to give you terrorist roles.
Yes. He was a thief, thief, terrorist and so on. I think people of North African descent or people of color are just not destined to play these kinds of roles. When we look at the canvas of French society, we still have people of all origins in interesting positions. The series reflects all of that.
Are you at the Cannes Film Festival? What are you doing there?
I am also a manager. I make a lot of films between France and Morocco. I am preparing a feature film, a co-production with France, Belgium and Morocco, which I will shoot in 2025. It is my first feature film. The weather is great in Cannes. I have unusual meetings.
Is there still a lot to be decided there?
They are determined in the morning, afternoon and especially in the evening. (He laughs)
Will you stay for the entire festival?
no. week. I will be shooting a film in June with Alban Lenoir in Marseille. It’s kind of fast and angry For French.

What is the subject of this feature film?
In Morocco, in a small fishing village, Amir, 7 years old, a bubble child, does not know that he is doomed. To brighten up his final journey, all the villagers made him believe that he had just won a ticket to space and that he would be the first Moroccan astronaut to complete a space flight.
How do you rate the shooting experience in Montpellier? What is your relationship with the city?
We feel good there. What’s a shame is that it’s a little far from the beaches. We have the opportunity to have drinks with our actor friends and then make friends in the city too. It’s easy to use. We feel good there. I can settle there.
Is it planned or not?
It will depend on the series (laughs). But why not. I love the sun and the welcoming people of Montpellier.
