Dengue: a second shot on the islands

With only 4 active cases and no hospitalizations, Fenua has not yet crossed the threshold of a dengue epidemic. However, the virus is still circulating, so lowering our guard is out of the question.

Henri-Pierre Mallet, head of health monitoring at ARASS, insists:

We see that the number of cases today is not increasing, thanks in part to the efforts of the population, so we must understand that if we are careful, we will limit this spread and can hope to avoid a serious epidemic that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes death.“

That doesn’t stop people from being careful. For its part, the Louis Malardet Institute will soon carry out its first release of sterile mosquitoes. A trial operation, the consequences of which will only be possible in the coming months or even years. So, while waiting for dengue fever to be eradicated, don’t hesitate to take a walk in your garden, apply mosquito repellent on yourself, and see a doctor if you experience any symptoms.
