Twitch: streamer Ninja, global Fortnite star, announces he has cancer

Terrible news that shocked the world of video games. This Thursday, American streamer Ninja announced to his community that he has skin cancer. The one who stood out for his Fortnite livestreams on Twitch posted a lengthy message on X (formerly Twitter) explaining under what circumstances the disease was discovered.

“I had a mole on my foot that the doctors wanted to remove as a precaution. It turned out to be melanoma, but they are optimistic because we caught it early,” Ninja, whose real name is Tyler Blevins, explained in the post.

Then another dark spot appeared near the first mole. So a biopsy was performed, removing a large area around the melanoma. The 32-year-old man is now awaiting results.

The streamer, who has at least 19 million followers on Twitch, admits to being “a little shocked” while saying he’s “grateful” that the cancer cells were detected quite early.

The National Health Service (NHS), Britain’s public health system, reminds us that melanoma is “a form of skin cancer that can spread to other parts of the body. The disease, caused in part by the sun’s ultraviolet rays, “most often appears as a dark brown or black patch on the skin,” according to health insurance website Amelie.

Skin cancer “may be the most common cancer in France,” the French Ministry of Health points out. In fact, between 141,200 and 243,500 cases are diagnosed in the country each year.
