Xi Jiping calls for strengthening Sino-US exchanges

Chinese President Xi Jiping on Wednesday called for strengthening Sino-US trade and stressed that China remains open to businesses from around the world, including those from the United States.

The Chinese economy is in good health » and China plans to continuously improve its business environment to provide opportunities for all companies, including those from the United States, said Mr Xi, who met a US commercial and academic delegation in Beijing. The meeting comes as part of efforts to stabilize relations between Beijing and Washington. Regarding Sino-US relations, the Chinese head of state said the successes achieved by the two nations are an opportunity for both countries. Relations between the two countries can follow a trend of improvement provided that both sides respect the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, the Chinese president said. He invited American companies to invest in China, especially under the Belt and Road Initiative, launched by Beijing a decade ago.

Relations between Beijing and Washington entered a period of tension in 2023, with trade disputes and geostrategic rivalry as stumbling blocks. The flight over US territory by a Chinese balloon in February 2023 fueled this tension, which bordered on a direct confrontation between the two countries, especially over Taiwan. Despite this tension, the two countries have exchanged high-level visits. In November 2023, a summit between US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart took place in San Francisco.
