AMMC completes preparations for the derivatives market: details

With a view to diversification and risk hedging for investors, Morocco is preparing to launch its futures market.

A futures market comes at the right time! Morocco is taking another step in modernizing its financial markets with the upcoming launch of a futures market. This progress, announced by Nezha Hayat, President of the Moroccan Capital Markets Authority (AMMC), is part of the new Strategic Plan aimed at creating new markets.

“We aim for an early effective launch of the futures market, with the finalization of the technical and regulatory dimensions,” Ms Hayat said. The introduction of this new financial instrument will allow investors to hedge against risks and should boost liquidity, a key factor in the attractiveness of the Moroccan financial center.

Outside the futures market, the AMMC continues its reforms, especially in the collective savings management segment. The revision of the law on UCITS (Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities) will pave the way for ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) and new funds intended for both private and professional investors.

The listing of OPCIs (Real Estate Collective Investment Organizations) will also be activated, expanding the investor base and liquidity of this segment. “We will continue to support stakeholders to expand supply and stimulate demand, especially by promoting digital channels,” the AMMC chairman underlined.

These regulatory developments and innovative products will require a strengthened supervisory framework, combining a risk-based approach and digital tools. Ms Hayat thus aims to “improve the contribution of the capital market to financing the economy, utilizing its potential to mobilize savings for productive investments”.
