Canteen: the city is creating an emergency system in case of severe allergic reactions

This Wednesday at noon, the mayor, accompanied by municipal officials, took advantage of the lunch break to have lunch with the staff of Elior, the new school meals supplier in Digne-les-Bains.

Those elected were able to evaluate the quality of the reception and food served, and note the good condition of the premises and equipment. 800 lunches, including 550 to 600 for schools, prepared every day and then distributed at 5 school restaurants in the city. The municipality wanted to introduce higher quality organic food products without short circuits, going beyond the 20% organic products set by the EGALIM law.

On the occasion of this visit, the mayor unveiled an epinephrine self-administration device for use in severe food allergic reactions, installed in every school restaurant. In a small first aid kit attached to the wall, ATSEM staff can use a pen pre-filled with epinephrine in case a child has a food allergy. Municipal staff also received training from Dr. Grane-Brunello as part of his work as an allergist.

The city of Digne-les-Bains is the first municipality in France to implement this type of system.

To inform as many people as possible, allergy risk posters are also present in each canteen so that both adults and children are aware of the problems associated with serious allergies.
