Dare to talk about mental health with loved ones and colleagues

Eva Mazur is a mental health coach. Together with Catherine Testa, she wrote the book Help: Keys to Learning to Observe, Listen, Accompany, published by Michel Lafon. Their goal is to share with as many people as possible the keys to helping those who need it, without replacing a therapist or healthcare professional.

This book is the fruit of their knowledge of the business world and their contribution to the association to liberate freedom of speech regarding psychological disorders. It also brings together, explains Eva Mazur, answers to questions that she asked herself during a difficult period several years ago. Questions that those around me had no answers to back then. This collection of mental health solutions and suggestions provides 67 key ideas for supporting and accompanying loved ones in difficult situations.

Watch and listen first

One of the first recommendations shared by both authors is to pay attention to all the warning signs first. Unusual reactions, significant fatigue or signs of work overload can really cause anxiety. The question then arises of beginning a process of active listening to assess the situation of the person concerned. Then you should listen to her and understand, and not try to convince her. One suggestion that seems relevant is to ensure that the person concerned acknowledges and shares their mental health concerns with a trusted person.

Project manager on the optimism.com team, Eva Mazur, is also promoting the concept of mutual help along with mental health. This recovery trajectory is based on mutual assistance between people who suffer or have suffered from a physical or psychological illness or are experiencing a social problem. That is, for example, a person who has experienced burnout and recovered well and supports colleagues who have suffered or may suffer.
