ICJ orders Israel to “urgently” provide aid to the Gaza Strip

While aid trucks are only trickling into the Gaza Strip, this ban by the International Court of Justice could change things.

This Thursday, the ICJ ordered Israel to provide “urgent humanitarian assistance” in the face of what the judges said was “famine that has taken hold” in the Palestinian enclave.

The UN’s highest judicial body is particularly concerned about the catastrophic situation in Rafah, where more than 1.5 million Gazans have taken refuge.

Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing a ground offensive there. But his government first wants to pitch its project to its main ally Washington, with which relations have grown increasingly strained in recent weeks.

In the meantime, IS continues to bombard the Gaza Strip, but also southern Lebanon, where Giorgio Meloni went.

The Prime Minister went to meet Italian soldiers from UNIFIL, the UN peacekeeping mission in the country. She also proposed mediation between Lebanon and Israel, in the face of tensions between the IDF and Hezbollah.

On Wednesday, at least ten people, mostly rescuers, were killed in Israeli army bombings of an emergency center.

The UN condemned the unacceptable attacks and called for de-escalation. For its part, Hezbollah has promised retaliation.
