Simba challenges Al-Ahly, the quarter-final programme

After the international match, this last weekend in March in Africa is marked by return of interclub competitions. The Champions League and Confederation Cup enter their fateful phase of knockout rounds. During the first leg of the quarter-finals, all eyes will be on Dar es Salaam. The capital of Tanzania and the Benjamini Mkapa National Stadium (60,000 seats) will in 24 hours see its two big clubs, Simba, then the “Yanga” (young Africans) receive, respectively, Al-Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns, the holders of the trophy and winners of the first African Football League, in other words the two big favourites. In October last year, Simba and Al-Ahly played to a draw (2-2) at the opening of the African Football League. What’s happening this Friday?

Saturday, the TP Mazembe (5 times titled), back at this level for the first time since 2020, will face the Angolans from Petro Atletico and their record of 0 goals conceded (1st Group C). Finally, theHope for Tunis and its 4 C1s on the list will challenge the Ivorians’ ASEC Mimosas.

Confederation Cup: the quarter-final schedule

There Confederation Cup, the African equivalent of the Europa League, is not to be outdone, with the four first leg matches on the schedule this Sunday. L’USM Alger, the defending champion, will challenge the Nigerians from Rivers United. Dreams FC, the Ghanaian side, for their part, travel to the pitch of Stade Malien, the winner of the 2009 edition. The Moroccans of RS Berkane, in reconquest mode, head to Libya to meet the surprise guest of ‘Abu Salim. Finally, Zamalek will cross swords with Modern Future FC in a 100% Egyptian duel.
