Faced with the risk of a resurgence of the epidemic in the summer and during the Olympics, vulnerable people are encouraged to resume vaccinations.
On February 8, the General Directorate of Health (HAS) published an opinion confirming the start of a new vaccination campaign in spring 2024. This decision can be explained, in particular, by the risk of a new epidemic wave in the summer. Especially this year, when the Summer Olympic Games will cause a massive arrival of tourists in France.
Vaccinate the most vulnerable before summer
Therefore, regional health agencies (ARS), including the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes agency, are launching their new campaign. “It aims to protect people most at risk of developing severe disease throughout the summer and into the fall.Vulnerable people are therefore being asked to extend their vaccination until 16 June.
The campaign therefore targets people aged 80 and over, as well as those admitted to nursing homes. The same goes for people with weakened immune systems and those who are at risk due to health conditions. They may call back from the receiving facility or from a medical professional. In particular, general practitioners or specialists, pharmacists, nurses and midwives have the right to do this.
Depending on the development of the epidemiological situation, the vaccination campaign may be extended until July 15. Moreover, HAS does not rule out expanding the use of booster vaccines due to the emergence of new, more virulent variants.
